Chinese state media estimates that in excess of 5 million preorders were made for the iPhone 13 range, and the volume overwhelmed Apple's China website.

CA few days ago, the American technology giant Apple introduced the iPhone 13 series . It includes four models, and pre-orders are already open for all models. Now come the unofficial reports on pre-orders of the iPhone 13 model in China.

China began taking preorders for the iPhone 13 range ahead of the US, and initial reports claimed sales were outpacing those of the iPhone 12 in 2020. Now Chinese state media is saying, the total number of preorders for phones in the range has exceeded 5 million.

According to the South China Morning Post, the figure counts preorders across third-party sites as well as Apple's own online store. Reportedly Chinese retailer JD.com alone took over 3 million preorders.

Investment bank analyst Wedbush reports that the number of pre-orders of the iPhone 13 model is already about 20% higher than the number of pre-orders of the iPhone 12 model in the same initial period last year. He further reports that customers are particularly interested in more expensive models - the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, and this will greatly help Apple achieve higher ASP (average sales price).

Prior to the introduction of the iPhone 13 series, it was speculated that Apple plans to produce 90 million iPhone 13 models in the first phase. Despite the global shortage of chips, Apple’s supply chain remains unchanged, and Apple’s key partners, such as TSMC, have already planned their orders in advance. As a reminder, the most popular model from the iPhone 12 series in the first 7 months of sales was the most expensive model - iPhone 12 Pro Max. Sales of this phone accounted for 29% of global iPhone 12 series sales, an increase of 4% over the 2019 iPhone 11 Pro Max. Its popularity in the U.S. market was even greater.
